These rugs are very special for two reasons. The first is their quality - each involves at least three days of work, from the handlooming through to the fine needlework and embroidery.
The second is that these come from a women’s cooperative (Maison Panorama in Fez) where the women can work together in a safe environment and where they get fair pay as they train in this skilled work. They spend the summer and autumn months in Fez, before rejoining the Taureg tribe in the Sahara to continue their work.
This beautiful example features an almost shimmering off-white base and a series of symmetrical geometric patterns in burgundy and red. It is completely one of a kind and handmade from start to finish.
